Training Information
Many times parents and players will inquire about additional training outside that of our standard weekly practice slots. This can consist of 1 on 1 individual skills or conditioning training, as well as group trainings and programs to work on advanced skill sets related to a players strength and conditioning, shooting, ball handling, and speed. Like with anything in life, it is important to identify the specific area in which you wish to improve and work on. Choosing the right option for your athlete will play in a key roll in there development as a young athlete. Below are some pointers and options for additional training.
Distinguish your athletes personal goals for training:
Have a conversation with your athlete and determine their specific goals for their training needs. Without a clear set of goals and vision for the future, it is often difficult to recognize and celebrate the smaller accomplishments made on their journey to achieving their goals.
Selecting a Trainer and/ or Program:
First, reach out and speak with other players parents in the Basketball Community to find someone who has experience and a good reputation with their program. It is important to choose someone that both you and your athlete are comfortable with. Training should be a positive experience for the player, and teach them the necessary skills that will transfer into a game.
Ocean State Kraken is familiar with a number of different trainers in the state of Rhode Island. Should the desire for additional training arise, please do not hesitate to reach out and inquire with your coach about specific areas to work on, trainers to look into, or programs to register for. Ocean State Kraken is also available for additional workouts and training throughout the course of the season, as well as the off season over the summer.
A good trainer will play a major roll in the success of your athlete as a player. Remember, there is no way around hard work. Embrace it. You have to put in the hours outside of practice and training, implementing your newly learned skills on a regular basis. There is always something you can improve on. Success isn't always about greatness. It's about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.
