Player Commitment Contract
As a player for the Ocean State Kraken, I pledge to consistently uphold the following values and standards of our team:
Respect: I will honor my coaches and parents. While I may not always agree with their methods or reasoning, I acknowledge their intention to aid in my development as the best player possible.
Conduct: Should I receive a technical foul for unsportsmanlike behavior, I understand I will be benched for the remainder of the current game. As a member of the Ocean State Kraken, I vow to always practice good sportsmanship, no matter the circumstance.
Determination: I will exhibit unwavering determination at all practices and games, never surrendering, never quitting. No matter the game's score, my utmost effort is guaranteed for my teammates, coaches, the program, and my family.
Referee Decisions: I will accept the decisions made by referees, recognizing that my reactions can not only negatively impact the game, but also my reputation as a player, as well as my teams.
Self Control: I will maintain self-control and set a positive example. I'll stay supportive and encouraging towards my teammates, treating them as I wish to be treated, regardless of the circumstances.
Team Spirit: I will embrace my role and responsibilities without complaint. As part of a team, I am committed to doing whatever it takes for our collective success.
Academic and Personal Conduct: I understand that my academic performance, behavior at home, and conduct outside of basketball can influence my standing on the team. Life encompasses more than just basketball, and the lessons I learn on the court will hold true in my life outside of basketball. I pledge to be the best version of myself at all times on and off the court.
Make Good Decisions: I pledge to abstain from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. No matter the situation, or complexity of a problem, I always have someone to reach out to within my OSK family. Remember, doing the right thing should never be met with fear of consequences; it's a courageous step that will always be supported by your coach, teammates, or OSK family.
Practice Ethic: I view practices as a chance to enhance my skills. It's a time for learning from mistakes, experimenting with new techniques, and advancing as a player. How I perform at practice will translate to the opportunities I have come game day. As a member of the Ocean State Kraken, I understand the importance of a unified team. I understand that the best team isn't always the one with the best individual players, but the one with the best combination of players. I promise to always exert my utmost effort, heed the guidance of my coaches, seek clarity when instructions are unclear, elevate my teammates, and above all, cherish the joy of the game.
Promise to Myself: I pledge to wholeheartedly believe in my abilities, and my confidence will rise. I will stand tall, and remember: a strong self-belief is my greatest asset as an athlete, and the journey toward my aspirations is paved with invaluable experiences, meaningful relationships, and personal growth. These elements are as significant as the achievements themselves, if not more. So, I vow to savor every moment of the journey!
As a member of the Ocean State Kraken, I am committed to adhering to these guidelines with the utmost dedication. My coaches, parents/ guardians, and I recognize that it is the display of consistent effort towards upholding these standards that truly matters. Should there be repeated breaches of these rules, it may affect my role with the OSK. The consequences ranging from reduced playtime, to potential dismissal from my team, will be proportionate to the gravity and recurrence of the violations. These principles are not just rules to follow; they are commitments I make to better myself as an athlete, a teammate, and an individual on and off the court.
