AAU stands for Amateur Athletic Union. AAU is one of the largest, non-profit, volunteer, sports organizations in the United States. AAU is a multi-sport organization, the AAU is dedicated exclusively to the promotion and development of amateur sports and physical fitness programs. Although there are many basketball programs in the region, not all of them are affiliated with AAU.
Q: What is the benefit of playing for an AAU Basketball team?
AAU basketball gives your child the opportunity to play up to 50 more games and practice 40 more times a year. By playing with players of your same ability, it allows players to develop in practice and compete in games against teams with similar talent.
Q: What ages and genders does the Ocean State Kraken offer?
The Ocean State Kraken is currently offering a Girls 7th through 8th Grade teams, and Boys 5th through 8th Grade teams for the upcoming Fall 2024 Season. We are committed to the continuous growth of our program and are actively seeking opportunities to expand. While expansion is a great, we remain steadfast in upholding our core values and maintaining a high level of commitment to each and every athlete. As we move forward, we will selectively be adding qualified coaches who share our coaching philosophy and beliefs.

Q: How do Tryouts work with your program?
Registration for tryouts will be announced well in advance, and will take place sometime in January for the upcoming Spring Seasons, and in August for the Fall Seasons. You will be able to register online, or if you choose, you can register in person the day of tryouts. If registering in person, please plan to arrive 15-20 minutes ahead of the scheduled tryout time. The cost of registration is $15.00 and can be paid in advance through Venmo, or with cash the day of.
Q: How much does the season cost to play for The Ocean State Kraken?
The cost of the Fall 2024 Season is $385.00, plus the cost of uniform package ($120.00) if needed. Costs for the Fall Seasons are typically reduced based on the length of the Season and the Tournament schedule as compared to Spring.
Q: What does the cost cover for the Season?
The fee for the Season covers, but is not limited to, our tournament entry fees, gym rentals for practice, practice/tournament insurances, coaching registration fees, AAU fees, and other miscellaneous fees.
